The born identity is a new Scantek blog series that will surface the stories of the amazing individuals behind our Scantek ecosystem.
From developers and Engineers to Marketers, Bookkeepers, and those dedicated to customer success. Every month we’ll get to the heart of our team so you can get to know us a little better and find out what makes us tick.
This month, meet Jason Grima. Jason has been with us for three years (and two days) and is based out of our office in Perth, Western Australia. We sat down with Jason to get to know him a little better by asking a series of questions.
What is your job title and what does your job entail?
I’m a Senior Software Developer. Currently, my daily work mostly involves integration of Scantek’s machine learning technologies into web applications, predominantly with a focus on mobile browsers.
What do you like most about your job?
I love working in a team where everyone is so passionate about getting the best results. Many heated discussions take place because people are invested in getting it right.
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
No matter how good you think your code is, no matter how thoroughly you’ve tested it. Someone will break it.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Honestly, I had wanted to be a software developer since I was 5 years old; I don’t even fully appreciate the range of alternatives that might exist.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
Ice hockey, video games, dungeons and dragons, all of these, especially with my kids.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
For about 10 years, I was involved in amateur theatre, acting, singing, stage-crew, set-building and for a portion of that time, I was an amateur opera singer, with a (now defunct) opera company in Subiaco.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
There’s a tiny town in the Yarra Ranges in Victoria called Marysville. I think that’s my favourite place away from home if I limit my response to places I’ve been.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
“Don’t be a jerk. Don’t sweat the small things.”
If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
… Let me think about that one
Three words to best describe you?
Tenacious, argumentative, loyal
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
Family
What TV show/movie are you ashamed to admit you, love?
City of Angels
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Flight
What is one food that you cannot resist?
Ice Cream
