In the newest edition of The Born Identity, we got to know Abdul.
A sports-loving gym enthusiast who also happens to be one of our awesome software engineers!
How long have you worked at Scantek?
Just over 7 months.
What is your job title, and what does your job entail?
I’m a Software Engineer.
I build all native mobile apps that run on the Android OS including our SDK, client apps, amongst other things.
What do you like most about your job?
The diversity. Every day is a different challenge. No project is ever the same as another, whether it is an exact replica of a previous project or a brand new one.
The Android OS is evolving so quickly, that there are always new and improved ways of doing things.
It’s amazing to see the old ways becoming obsolete so quickly as it keeps me learning – I love it!
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Change is inevitable, so always design solutions with scalability in mind.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Be a football player (most likely the best in the world 😂)
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
Working out at the gym, watching sports (particularly football and basketball) and hanging out with friends (usually having a barbecue).
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I was an “inside” kid when growing up. I chose to play video games over playing junior football.
Since moving to WA, I’ve completely changed. I love the outdoors, and playing football is a part of my routine.
Looking back on it, even if I was an “outdoor” kid, I might not have made it BIG to play professional football in Ghana 😂.
Where’s your favourite place in the world?
What is your motto or personal mantra?
“All that glitters is not gold” – William Shakespeare.
If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
It would have to be Lebron James.
It’s amazing to see how much success he has had on and off the basketball court and for such a sustained amount of time! Especially when it’s “scandal” free.
What’s even more amazing is that it looks like there is a lot more to come.
Three words to best describe you
Low-key, peaceful, and considerate.
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
The Internet – I mean, who can?!
What TV show/movie are you ashamed to admit you, love?
Run the World. If you haven’t watched it, it’s a must!
It’s about a group of women who work, live and play in Harlem and every day they strive for world domination.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
To read minds!
What is one food that you cannot resist?
Meat! Beef, Lamb, Chicken – I definitely could not be vegan, or vegetarian!
