The Born Identity – Zubair Ahmed

Introducing Zubair

This month we sat with Zubair, one of our Data Engineers. Zubair is to our Data Scientists what Zubairs Macbook is to him, BUT we’ll talk about that later!

Zubair has been a part of the Scantek tribe for just over eleven months.  He is a kind soul who is wicked smart and will pretty much say yes to everything! anything

Zubair Ahmed captured his beautiful smile.

What is your job title, and what does your job entail?

My job title is Data Engineer. I create and execute pipelines that extract data from sources that process them to store them in our preferred database.

The database mainly feeds relevant datasets for our Machine Learning model that trains and validates the benchmark.

I also develop machine learning models that solve computer vision problems, especially ones related to segmentation.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy every bit of it! But if I had to choose one aspect of my role, I would say architecting; this is when I create code so that the data flows from source to storage.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Never give up!

Everyone around me possesses something to learn from.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

Maybe a drawing artist/painter.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Spend time with family, watching movies or sports, especially football and cricket, reading to learn some tech stuff.

What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I like to surprise people to who I am close.

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

My grandparent’s and fathers home. I was born there.

I will never forget the smell of the soil and the crops on rainy days.

Green, beautiful nature

What is your motto or personal mantra?

I believe in ‘Karma‘.

If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

That’s a tough one, as there are many people whom I  would like to meet.

Sunil Gangopadhyay. He’s a Bengali novelist whose writings have always been straight to heart.

OR

Brian Charles Lara, an international cricketer from Trinidad. His batting style and technique was some of the best that I ever did see growing up.

OR

Audrey Hepburn. She was beautiful both inside and out.

Three words to best describe you?

Passionate, ambitious and persevering.

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

My MacBook. I don’t think I could go a day without touching it.

What TV show/movie are you ashamed to admit you, love?

Most recently, I have been addicted to reality TV shows such as Australian Survivor or The Voice. I barely missed an episode even though I have doubts that they may be scripted!? They are highly addictive to watch!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Time travel. Going back to earlier in life and changing some decisions that affected others.

What is one food that you cannot resist?

If someone writes ‘EGG’ on a piece of paper and gives it to me, I’d eat it.

There are no boundaries between me and food!
