The Born Identity – Chris King

Join us as we sit with Chris, our Senior Business Development Manager for SA and get to know him a little better.

Who is someone you admire, and why?

This may be a bit controversial, but one person I admire is Lance Armstrong. I have been bike-racing since I was 15, and I consider him an absolute legend for having won seven Tour de France competitions. Yes, he made a huge mistake and took some time to admit it – but I admire his hard work and the hundreds of hours he spent training, even for the PED’s.

Tell me three pet peeves.

When people don’t respond to messages or emails, reckless driving (especially when I’m cycling on the road), and just general rudeness to others.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Weekdays begin at 7:15am with my usual daily routine, including feeding the chickens, watering the lawn, dropping my daughter off at school, and returning to my home office to start my work day.

At lunch, I’d watch something relaxing on Netflix while I eat (currently I’m into documentaries).

In the afternoon, I pick up my daughter from school and finish off my work. Then it’s training time, either on the bike or rowing machine, followed by dinner.

I like to potter around outside afterwards, then spend time with the family watching TV, and be in bed by 10:30 at the latest. That’s just my weekdays – weekends are a whole different story!

Do you have skills or talents that most people don't know about?

None that I can think of.

Where would you be if you could be anywhere other than here right this minute?

New Zealand, I just love that place.

Flashback to when you were ten years old. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I’ve always wanted to be a fireman. I volunteered for 7 years, and that’s as close as I got.

If we went to happy hour, what would you order?

Either a Byron Bay 🍺, or Coke no sugar.

Finish this sentence. On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me…

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?

My ability to establish strong relationships with my clients quickly, and my in-depth knowledge of the Conveyancing industry.

Name three words that describe you.

Chris King Identity is a caring, helpful, and devoted family man, exemplifying integrity.

What do you want to make sure you do before you die?

For my family to have the best I can provide for them, and for them to live a happy life.

What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to accomplish in the next year?

To compete in the National Indoor Rowing Championships and strive to achieve a time of under 6 minutes and 30 seconds for the 2km event, with the ultimate goal of competing in the World Championships.

Name a few of your daily habits (other than a shower and brushing your teeth).

Fitness – some sort of movement daily, watching my favourite YouTube videos over breakfast, and 30 seconds cold shower at the end of every shower.

What publications do you regularly read?

I’m currently trying to read through all of the Jack Reacher novels.

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working?

Spending time with the family, I am a bit of a home body.

What are some causes you care about?

The Salvation Army. My dad visited Somalia during the civil war and witnessed the Salvation Army’s commitment to helping those in need – they were sleeping in tents on the ground while other charities had air-conditioned portable shelters. From that day forward, I have only supported the Salvation Army.

What do you do in your spare time?

Whatever project my wife has me doing around the house, as well as trying to get out on the bike as much as I can.

What would be your personal motto?

Fall down seven times, get up eight!
